The 1932 M.S.R.L. season kicked off on September 23rd with six members. By September 29th, three of those teams - Kelvin, Gordon Bell, and Daniel McIntyre - had withdrawn to form a new city league with St. John's Tech.
This division left the public schools in a league separate from the private schools (St. Paul's and St. John's). To balance out the league, Ravenscourt was invited to be a member of the M.S.R.L.

A group of rugby football enthusiasts met in 1931 to organize the first high school league in Manitoba. The Manitoba Schools Rugby League (M.S.R.L.) was comprised of four teams, St. Paul's College, St. John's College, Portage Collegiate Institute, and Kelvin Technical High School.
St. Paul's College hosted Portage Collegiate Institute in the first M.S.R.L. game on September 26th, 1931.
The long-standing City League was formally renamed the Winnipeg High School Football League in 1968. By this time, the league had grown to include ten teams from across Winnipeg. The league was divided into the North and South Divisions to accommodate the many teams.
The WHSFL continues to operate as the main high school football league in Winnipeg.
